Phifer Erwin Moran, Jr., 85, died Wednesday July 22, 2009 at his residence.

Mr. Moran was born May 6, 1924 in Forsyth County the son of Phifer Erwin Moran, Sr. and Ruby Davis Moran.  He was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II.  Mr. Moran was a graduate of North Carolina State University with a major in textile engineering.  He worked for PH Hanes in Winston-Salem, superintendent of Royal Cotton Mill in Wake Forest and a business owner.  Mr. Moran was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Dorothy Enzor Moran, a son William Erwin Moran, and a sister Margaret Moran Vannoy.

Survivors include his two daughters Gail Moran Powell and husband Derrick of Oak Island, and Pamela Moran Dawkins and husband Barry of Rockingham.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Northwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, July 24, 2009 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home in Southport.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC  28401
