Gladys McDowell Lewis – Winnabow

Mrs. Gladys McDowell Lewis age 83 of Winnabow died Monday February 6, 2012 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Brunswick County on November 23, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence Flowers McDowell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Lewis, daughter, Phyllis Ann Lewis and a grandson, Freddie Lewis. She was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by three children, Sharon Duncan and husband Randy of Leland, Brenda Nelson and husband Bud of Leland, Edward Lewis and Libby Willetts of Bolivia; six sisters, Louise Caison of Supply, Theo Bass of Raeford, Marie Justice of Bolivia, Bessie Vereen of Bolivia, Vernie Gainey of Leland, Madeline Marshburn of Leland; a very dear family friend, Ruby Thomas; 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday February 9, 2012 at 1pm at Mill Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Merle Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Willetts Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael Lewis, Weaser Nelson, Steven West, Bryan West, Jesse Mason, Cody Mason, Thomas Briley.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center C/O Brunswick County Facility, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401
